On-device rendering and cloud AI can be part of the same workflow. They do different jobs. Knowing which data is used at each stage helps you make an informed choice about the footage you edit.
Original source videos stay on your iPhone
The iPhone editing workflow keeps the full source videos on the device. The app works with local copies for playback, trimming, and final rendering. You do not need to upload the original video files for the mobile moment-selection workflow.
This description applies to the iPhone workflow. The web editor has a separate upload path, so do not assume that selecting a video in the browser has the same data handling as selecting it on your phone.
AI moment analysis uses preview data
To help identify useful moments, the app prepares selected preview frames and analysis information from your clips. Preview imagery and related descriptions are sent to cloud AI services for moment analysis and planning.
A preview can still contain personal information visible in the image. Keeping the original video local is different from keeping every image or piece of information fully offline. Choose footage with that distinction in mind.
Music and lyrics are generated online
Your creative brief, feeling, and relevant moment descriptions help guide music and lyrics generation. These features need an internet connection and use online services. The resulting soundtrack is then used with your selected footage.
If you prefer to choose the music yourself, you can use an existing track instead. Selecting your own audio changes the creative workflow; it does not make all of the project’s online services disappear.
Check the complete workflow before sharing
On-device export describes where the final video is rendered. Publishing that exported file to a social network or sending it to someone is a separate choice you make afterwards.
For sensitive footage, consider what appears in preview frames as well as what appears in the final film. This guide explains the product workflow; it does not promise that no data leaves your device or that every AI feature works offline.
